The saw works fine. it is a bit underpowered, but that could be a good thing when doing something as dangerous as cutting hardwood on a cement slab. I hit a few nails, which is going to happen when doing this, and the rather weak motor gave a good kick back but I was able to control it. Cuts straight and accurately. The blade lost a few teeth when I hit nails, but it kept on cutting. When it binds, it helps to back it up carefully a few inches and go ahead again. Highly recommended when you consider the alternatives are $300 or more.

I used the saw for a number of projects without a problem. It works great for cutting out flooring along walls. However, the first time I got a little careless and allowed the saw to kick the handle broke off. Inspection showed that the handle is very poorly designed and there is no way to fix the unit.

Started to make my first cut and the handle broke off the body of the saw. I didn't get through two feet of cutting.

This is the "Chicago" brand and be aware it only comes with a wood blade. if you need to cut through ceramic tiles (as this is often used for) do NOT buy this saw, they don't even make a ceramic tile (carbide or diamond) blade for this. Their own customer service and tech people did not know this. Wasted my time.

This power tool is no more dangerous or risky than any other small power tool. It does cut through the underlayment very well.


I find it a little difficult to hold flush against the cabinet toe kick board for a truly even cut, but a little practice helps.


A great improvement to the saw would be adjustable height runners on the bottom of the saw to prevent cutting into the sub-flooring material. However, I find that a think piece of wood held firmly under the saw skid and body helps tremendously in preventing unwanted sub-floor cuts.


Considering the price, it is a good buy. Much less expensive that the Crain competitor.

Cut out a lot of flooring, no problems at all, and still on first blade. As to lack of depth adjustments, just place a piece of 1/4 ply under the saw body to cut 1/2 material, etc. I also quickly found if you slightly rock the saw as you cut, it will not want to bind and will move quickly. It seems well made and has plenty of power. I have had very good experience with HF power tools, also have the heavy duty hammer drill and the big router. All working great with frequent use. For the price, their air nail guns are all great as well.

Totally worth buying. I needed to rip out vinyl over 1/4" plywood. This tool was excellent for cutting around an island. Easy to use and cut through like butter. If I had used my HF multi-tool, it would've taken hours (and the vibration would make my carpal tunnel-ridden hands fall asleep for the next six months). The only thing I didn't like is that there's no depth adjustment, which meant I had to hold it at an angle to cut to 3/8, since I didn't want to remove the subfloor. It's doable though. Never needed to use this type of saw before this, so not sure if adjustable depth saws even exist.

I bought one for cutting the subfloor away from walls and cabinets.Works like a charm for 1/3the price of a commercial model. harbor freight is a life saver.
