Good light-duty cut off saw

If you do any metal fabrication, you need a water-cooled power band saw. An abrasive wheel cutoff saw isn't adequate, nor is a band-saw without a coolant system. The 7x12 is the probably smallest size that will give good practical use. Mine is a different brand, but is the same saw. Blade must be kept very tight or it will pop off the steel wheels which are not crowned and do not have tires on them like wood-cutting band saws.

Setup can be tedious since there's no easy way to either lock the head up while adjusting the position, or release it to drop quickly when ready to cut. Two extra valves on the hydraulic mechanism would have accomplished both of those things.

As with all import tools in this class, the 7x12 maximum dimensions are optimistic. That is the absolute widest and tallest thing that will fit in the saw, but it won't be happy cutting something that big. The vise angles to allow cutting at an angle up to 45 degrees, but you lose a lot of width in doing so.

Using it effectively takes some practice. You need to make sure coolant is flowing before the blade contacts the work. The blade guide needs to be adjusted as close as possible to the work, as does the coolant nozzle. If you cut too fast or too slow, or the belt tension is wrong, the blade can jam, come off the pulleys, or get teeth stripped off of it. As with any metal-cutting too, the teeth will dull quickly if you don't set it up so every tooth is taking a bite. There are three blade speeds selectable and they do need to be changed depending on the work. This saw will do pretty heavy sections if you set it up right and give it time. Probably the heaviest I've cut is some 5 x 7 x 1/2" L section at a 45 degree angle.

In terms of maintenance you will need to keep the metal shavings cleaned out, change the oil/water coolant mix from time to time, and clean up a certain about of grunge, gunk, and rust that accumulates where the coolant has splattered. Some coolant will always run out along the workpiece and drip on the floor, so consider that when deciding where to set it up. Blades will wear or break quickly if run at the wrong speed or tension or used on the wrong material.

This is not a production machine but is a good compromise for a typical home or farm shop or for prototyping work.

This saw is Great, use the 20% off and get it even cheaper. Ours saw is 9 years old. Switch and the coolant pump blew out but the saw keeps on going. I put a light switch on the cord and used a HF small pond pump to replace the blown out coolant pump. We use different blades because we cut 304 stainless steel and the HF saw blades are worthless. the saw is 1/2 the price of a JET or a grizzly and really is the same saw.

Bought this saw to cut a fair amount of 1" steel bar for a light production job. The hydraulic feed control and coolant are a must. This saw costs about 30-40pct less than same saw under different names. I came out for about $639 after coupons. The coolant system works well, the clamping table works great. we are able to stack sevral bars for bulk cutting and walk away for several minutes. The tab for the shutoff switch did need a slight tweak. IT IS HEAVY, but that's a pro, not a con because it dampens vibration. The work height is low, but that seems to be common amongst this style.
I don't expect the blade to last long, I plan on ordering a premium replacement. If you need a saw that could be used for regular light to medium metalwork, this is a great buy!

Picked up July 4Th with a 25% discount. Out the the door [$] Ran a test cut run, 1/4" wall 2"x 2" Box steel. Perfect straight cut. After checking and testing several times, I put it to the test with MG42 Receiver build.$375.00 part. Cut receiver perfect in correct location I marked off. Use Windshield Wiper Fluid as a col-lent and clean up Saw with WD-40 after each use.

I have used the saw for two weeks without any problems. There was a small leak at the coolant line that just needed tightened but everything else has worked just fine. The hydraulic feed is great when cutting different size of materials. I have used the cheaper band saws without the cutting fluid and hydraulic feed and this one is so much superior. This unit looks like some of the others from other companies only a different color but was so much cheaper at HF.

uncrated my bandsaw today and started sawing....works exactly as promised!!! Fantastic! Cuts large metal straight and square. Heavy duty construction, IMO. The stock blade seems to be working great. Cooling system works fine...I'm using windshield washer fluid, and spraying everything down with WD-40 when done to prevent rust. I'm not sure how this unit could be better? Heavy cast steel where it needs it.....lighter sheet metal in the base where heavy stuff is not needed.

I would buy this unit again without any hesitation.

Have usede machines that cost 3-4 times as much and I don't think they are any better. Very well made with good qulity steel and iron. The only this that is a problem is it weighs over #300 but the wheels seem to handle it ok.

Had this saw for 10 months; works great. I've been cutting all sorts of large structural steel with it with excellent, consistent results. Yes, the wheels and adjustable feet are pretty bad, but I'll fix'em proper when they fail. Great value.
