I bought two riveter. I needed to change out the window motor of my GMC Typhoon and the widow motor assembly is affixed with rivets.

I ended up buying two different rivet tools, but they both sat for about 3 years (and I still haven't used it for what I intended to use it for - to fix the window motor of my GMC Typhoon). Tonight I found the one I'm reviewing now (38353) and needed to fix a step ladder so I quickly read the instructions and riveted two sides of my step ladder. It worked great and my fix looks like it was done at the factory - very professional :). Yes, the stem gets stuck, but if you read the instructions, open the tool wide. I simply shook the tool and the stem fell out. You can also push the stem in with the flat side of the wrench and then pump it and open it wide.

What's the big deal?

I'm thinking of buying another one just to get more rivets since it's on sale. I get the tool as a backup.

adding to my review..have had one of these for 30 years and it's still going strong. for those guys that say that the used rivet stem gets stuck...{that's a sign of good jaws}... after 30 years mine is still doing it (rember 30 years of hard use)..used every size rivet from 3/32 to 3/16...stainless to aluminum. some with a 1/2 head(steel)...they all stick most times-how to get the old stem out..put a new rivet in the tip and tap with a small hammer..new rivet in old stem out "come on guys it's not rocket science" and for those whinny brats that b!+(# about HF'S "JUNK TOOLS" must not know how to use"TOOLS" you take the bad with the good..i have yet to take anything back to "HF"that was'nt a gift that i had more than 2 of

I used this to re-rivet a motorcycle muffler back together that I had shortened. Worked great on the carbon fibre material. I also used it on a heavy leather shoulder harness with good results.

I would never recommend this tool for "Heavy Duty" jobs, but for light duty around the home projects I don't think I've seen another product as cost effective as this one. It does come with rivets, so pay attention to the type as they are likely the most effective fasteners for this tool.

Just moved across country and couldn't find my rivet gun. Bought this one for a quick need. Won't even look for the old one. This one is soooooooo much better!

Great price and always works as it should whenever I pick it up-What more could you ask for? I use it around the shop and home for the occasional needed rivet or two and it does what it should. Its not intended for a manufacturing setting so be realistic. I think it's a great value considering what some places want to charge for basicly the same thing. I'm very satisfied with my purchase.

I had the stuck stems problem everyone else indicated. I finally managed to fix it. The simple answer is use the next bigger rivit holder tip.

Basically, for each size rivit there is a tip either on the gun or on the front handle. There are two parts that make each unique: The size of the hole in the end AND the length of the tip behind the threads. This controlls how much pressure the two gripper pieces put on the rivit stem. When I used the smallest size tip that the stem will fit in, I get the stem-wont-release issue. When I used the next larger size I get much better operation and stem release.

This is my first Hand Riveter.I used it in a couple of project. After rivet snaps I have to spread the handle out a little bit to get the jaws to release the pin, I didn't have to take the thing apart.
